MENTAL HEALTH & SOCIAL MEDIA

Let's make something clear: my body confidence is, at times, very low.

I've never been able to unconditionally love absolutely everything about my body – something I'm sure most people can relate to. Sometimes it's my stomach, sometimes it's my nose or my teeth or my chin. Lately, I've noticed how social media has had a massive impact on the way I see and feel about my body.

I am well aware how, these days, people have gotten particularly good at Photoshop and Facetune and I also know (deep down) that no one would ever share something they don't particularly like or are 100% content with. Despite my common sense, I can't help but scroll through my Instagram feed and feel like I am not enough.
You're basically almost expected to have it all: perfect body, perfect face, amazing outfit, lots of money and great photography skills. And let's not forget about the constant pressure of getting tonnes of likes and followers – something I have yet to master I'm afraid.

HELLO AGAIN

It feels quite weird to write again on this blog. I suppose at this point, the many breaks I have been taking throughout the years should have made this process easier.

Despite that, and despite me choosing writing as a career, I am awful at writing things down. Actually, I'll rephrase that: I am awful at writing down what I feel. Because, you see, I could ramble for hours about a specific book, a skirt, or a place I've visited. But it's always really hard for me to put down into words what I feel. Especially when I am sad.

I guess it's quite a normal thing, if I have to be honest with you, and I really don't know why I am writing this post down. I just had the hitch, a sort of an urge to start writing again. Something that I have been missing dearly lately.

I have been caught up in what is, essentially, life. Winter left its place to spring, where my heart felt better and I handed in my dissertation. I am in fact, a full functioning and graduate adult trying to make a living out of what I love doing the most.

INTERNSHIP 101: WEEK ONE

I was sitting in a coffee shop yesterday, chatting away about the mind blowing week I had.
If you're not following me on Twitter (you should, I'm funny I promise) you probably don't know I am currently a Fashion Desk Intern at The Times (Right?!?)

I've been waiting to start this internship since it got confirmed at the beginning of last summer – I know, it's practically been ages!
However, I would have never expected it to be so intense, overwhelming and yet fun as it has turned out to be.

RED

September is almost over and tomorrow will officially be my first last day of university and I don't quite know how to feel about it just yet.

Time has flown by so quickly in the last three years and I don't think I ever realised how at home I feel here and how much I am going to miss living by the sea. It's funny how much we get used to places and certain routines, so much that we feel lost without them.
Let me tell you, summer was a weird one because I felt like I needed to be at university writing my dissertation instead of back home enjoying my time off.

SEPTEMBER

Summer is almost over and, as September has managed to sneak into our lives, I felt the need to make some changes and set a few goals I'd like to achieve before starting my third and final (sigh!) year at uni.

I've always been big at the whole 'write everything down' thing, but somehow I only manage to do it on paper and rarely on my blog. So I decided to try something new: a monthly goal post where I list the things I'd like to do and try to achieve them all.

As someone who's always been highly motivated but oh so lazy at times, I feel like this would be the best move for me right now. Making something public and out there is always a good kick up your arse, isn't it?

PEACHY DENIM JACKET

If you follow me on Instagram or if you've read my blog before, you've probably already seen this denim jacket.
I bought it back in May and I was so excited to wear it until I realised it was way too hot for me to do it.

As you can probably imagine, I wasn't the happiest girl back then. I finally found something new I absolutely loved and I couldn't even wear it.

However, after months (literally) of warm weather, England decided it was too much and went back to its typical 17°-19° C. Not great for July, of course, but great for me as it means I can wear the jacket in the evening without dying of heat.

So here we have it: the gorgeous denim jacket I have been blabbing about!
It's from (surprise, surprise) ASOS and it's the most beautiful peachy denim jacket with ruffles I've ever seen (or owned for that matter).

A/W16: Trends and DIYs

Autumn (and Fashion Week) is just around the corner and, if you’re into fashion like me, you’ll know it’s that time of the year again where we have to change our wardrobe and start purchasing appropriate items for this Autumn/Winter 2016.

As much as I love fashion, I am still a student on a budget and I even struggle to buy more than a couple of items from Topshop sometimes. However, I realised I don't really have to spend a fortune this year  – some of the trends are so easy to reproduce that all I have to do is just start being creative.

Fendi: Legends and Fairytales Collection

Karl Lagerfeld did it again and I'm not surprised.

It's the day after the most amazing show I have probably ever witnessed (from my computer screen, that is) and I'm still in shock thinking about it.

Current Favourites & Summer Essentials

Guess who's been buzzing all day because Spain is only three days away?
Still haven't packed, of course, but I've been planning my outfits so I guess that counts?

Even though it's gonna be brief, this little mini holiday is much needed. If I have to be honest, I've had enough of this crappy English weather – and I'm sure it's got nothing to do with the fact I'm from Italy.

I wanted to share a few essentials that I'll be bringing with me to Spain, which also happen to be a few of my current favourites.

These ASOS sandals are my absolute favourite at the moment. I've always been a black sandals kind of girl, but I have to say these ones are so gorgeous I had to get them before they sold out.

Bag is Zara of course and, if you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw it in my latest post. I said it before and I'll say it again, I've never been as obsessed with a bag as I am with this one.

Those amazing sunglasses are Quay Australia and I got the last summer in Topshop. I mean, they just scream me.
Speaking of Topshop, last time I was there my lovely boyfriend got me a silver necklace with his initial written inside the heart – it hasn't left my neck ever since (in case it wasn't obvious!)

And, last but not least, one of my staple essentials for summer is a good book. If there is one thing I can't stand is laying by the sea without something to read. But let's be honest, I'll probably read the one I've got in the photo before I even get on the plane.

Have you got any summer essentials and favourites? Let me know! X

May Wish list: Fashion Inspo

If there is one thing that is changing is my fashion style. Not sure about what it used to be before, but I am well aware of the fact that I now like things I would have never liked before.

To be completely honest, I could easily blame this on two of the biggest mega babes I know (or wish I knew that is): Alexa Chung and Chiara Ferragni.

Whether this is just a phase or the real deal, two of the things I am absolutely loving at the moment are glitter (and boots, but we already knew that!) and patches. Actually, it's safe to say the more the merrier!

High waisted skirts and trousers are, of course, always a must for me. However, I wouldn't mind two or three dresses from the Archive By Alexa collection.

Zara is also absolutely killing at the moment and I'd happily spend all my overdraft in there (if only I wasn't a student, aye).

Chiara is always been one of my favourite babes of all time – and, of course, I couldn't not include at least one of her pieces in this wish list.

As of Miu Miu goes, needless to say they make the absolute best sunglasses in the history of ever. There is no doubt about that.

Overall, my style is changing and (unfortunately) I am loving everything is sight that is way too expensive for me to buy.
May this phase become real one day and not remain a plain, hopeless wish list!

Balmain x H&M

If you happen to be a fashion lover like me, you'll probably know that the new Balmain x H&M collection comes out tomorrow. Tomorrow. How exciting is that?!
I've been lusting over every single piece – I love the colours, the style, the textiles. Let's be honest, what's there not to love? It's Balmain after all!

I wrote a little article about it and I'd love it if you could check it out.
Hope you'll love the collection as much as me and, if you manage to get something, I envy you so so so much (student budget, woo-hoo)!

Fashion Week Highlights: My First Article

One of the main reasons why I decided to become a Journalist is because I want to be able to write a piece of work that people would actually enjoy reading, an article that talks about something I am really passionate about. And I would have never thought in a million years that in just over a month of Uni my first ever article would have been published.
There are only a limited number of things that cheer me up all the time and make my day – and that'd usually include chocolate, tea and Alex Turner; but not today.
This might not seem like such a big deal to loads of you, but reading my name on an actual newspaper made me feel extremely proud of myself and made me realise what I've accomplished in such a short period of time.

So, here's the article*.
If you do end up reading it, I really hope you like it.

March Favourites

1. H&M polo-neck top, £6.99
4. H&M Lace Bra, £6.99
14. Vogue USA March Issue 2015

I have to say March wasn't too cold and that gave me a reason to start wearing my old Converse again and put some bright nail polish on my nails.

I haven't shop as much as usual but I've been loving some old classics such as the Topshop Joni Jeans – that I wear pretty much on a daily basis, and the Topshop MOTO Denim Jacket. Although it's not particularly warm, it's perfect for the weather we've been having in London lately, just enough to keep you nice and cozy.

On the make up front, the newest additions are the Maybelline Color Drama Lipstick and the Benefit Roller Lashes Mascara. Needless to say I love them both so much – otherwise I wouldn't have put them in my March Favourites, duh!
The Maybelline Lipstick lasts on my lips pretty much all day long and I already have most of the colours in the collection. As for the Benefit Roller Lashes I find it absolutely gorgeous on my eyes, my lashes look so long and full, it's just the perfect mascara for me at the moment.
The Brows pencil, Eyeliner and Foundation are old favourites of mine and I don't think I'll try anything new for a long time.

The new clothing items I've purchased this month are both from H&M and they're both stunning. The first one is the polo-neck top and it's, surprise surprise, striped! I wore it on my birthday and loved it so much I've pretty much worn everyday since then – no worries, I washed it first!
And the lace bra is so comfortable you don't even notice you're wearing it. Perfect for those lazy days when I don't feel like wearing a real bra – TMI?! Soz!

I've tried so many candles this month but the one I loved the most is the IKEA one in Vanilla, it just makes me want to eat vanilla ice cream every time I smell it – so so so good!

Last but not least, I couldn't have done a favourites post without mentioning my favourite person – aka Taylor Swift. The Perfume Shop had an offer on her Enchanted Wonderstruck perfume and I've been wearing it every day – so nice and feminine. And, of course, how can we not mention the stunning Vogue Cover she shares with Karlie Kloss on the march issue?! The whole article – and photoshoot!, is lovely and I really enjoyed it.

I really do hope the next Favourites post will include more summery clothes and accessorises – I can't wait for warmer weather.

Have you tried any of those products? What did you think of them?

March Wish List: Birthday Edition

H&M Suede Skirt (£99.99)

Since my birthday is next Sunday, I thought I'd do a little March wish list but birthday related. Obviously these are items I'd love to get as presents but that are quite too expensive for me considering my budget. I threw in some cheaper items though that I hope to purchase in the future – such as those gorgeous Zara heels, that superb H&M suede skirt and that beautiful Chanel Lipstick.

Also I think this would be a perfect birthday outfit for a night out, what do you think?

February Wish-List

The month of February is almost over and I decided to share what's on my wish list for this month.
It's not spring yet and I still don't feel the need to mix loads of colours – that's why I opted for a monochrome outfit with just a hint of colour here and there. I absolutely love every single piece and I am so tempted to buy the whole outfit but I know my bank account would hate me if I did, haha!

So there you have it, a perfect mix of Topshop, ASOS, NARS and Too Faced.

I opted for some stripes because I love me some stripes – duh!, also the pointed shoes are a must for me this season as I am trying to rock a more classic look. The bag is an absolutely beauty and so are the dungaree dress and the tailored coat. I obviously couldn't post this outfit without a dark lip – and this NARS shade is just too lovely (and limited edition!). And last but not least the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette has the most wonderful eyeshadows colours I've seen in a long, long time.

1. TOPSHOP Striped Funnel Neck Crop Sweater

be YOU tiful

Something happened yesterday in Twitter's world and I wanted to talk about it.

Demi Lovato wrote a few tweets that made me a bit angry. It's not that I don't get what she means, it's just that I think she could have expressed it a little bit better.
The thing is I don't understand why she had to judge girls who like to wear makeup or people who make tutorials on the internet. What's wrong with a bit of makeup?
I know that she's only trying to prove the fact that we're beautiful the way we are, but what if I like to wear makeup? What if I enjoy experimenting? What if I don't wear makeup because I'm insecure but just because I think it's fun and I like it?
With all the respect to Miss Lovato, girls – or everyone else for that matter, should be able to do what they want to do without being judged.

If you want to wear makeup, do it. If you don't like it, don't wear it. You like watching tutorials, why is it so wrong? You like making tutorials for other people, I personally thank you.

If I have to be quite honest with you now, I personally don't like my skin. I've been having problems with it and I really like makeup because I can cover it up and feel confident again. I like wearing red lips, I like wearing eyeliner and mascara. I like makeup and I like watching tutorials on the internet. Yet I don't understand why I should feel bad about it.

It's a free world, we should all be able to do whatever we want.

Also I just want to point out the fact that I am in no way saying she shouldn't express her opinion, I just wish she chose a different way to express it. Words hurt, no matter what, and people should count to 100 before speaking.
But then again, that's just my opinion and I wanted to share it.
Please, feel free to comment yours, I'd like to read what you have to say regarding this topic.
