I was scrolling through my dashboard on Tumblr and I bumped into a gif of Kaya Scodelario saying "I love you too, find the love in yourself".
I can't explain why but this small, simple sentence got me thinking a lot yesterday evening. I was curious why she said that - because obviously it was taken out of contest - so I looked it up on Google and I found the actual conversation between her and a fan:
*Kaya to a crying fan*
Kaya: no listen you’re beautiful but your friends should inspire you
fan: thank you but no I-..
Kaya: no but it’s true, your friends should be the ones that inspire you - not me
fan: .. yeah but. .. I love you so much
Kaya: I know, I know darling! I love you too but find the love in yourself .. love yourself as well!”
She said something that is both true and inspiring.
If we think about it we spend most of our time idolizing someone because they're beautiful, or because they have blue/green/hazel eyes, because they dress in the right way, because they can sing or act or else. And when it comes to love ourselves we fail at it.
It shouldn't be this way though, we should love ourselves before loving everyone else and the same applies to wanting someone to love us. How can they love us if we don't?
Now, by the things I wrote it could seem like I really love myself, but I don't. And it's something I want to change.
I decided that from now on I will write at least one positive thing about me every day, so whenever I feel sad, or disgusted with myself I can take my notebook and read about all the marvelous things I have to offer.
We all should learn to love ourselves, otherwise we will never be happy.
"Fall in love with yourself,
because someday you're gonna be
the only one you've got."
